Artist Statement

A native of the Northwest, Carolyn spent much of her childhood with family on a small dairy farm in Washington. A love of animals, especially the beautiful Jersey cows that were hand milked twice a day, along with horses that was every child‘s dream, was discovered early in her childhood. She painted early on from love and instinct and carried this passion throughout her life.

Now retired from the communications industry, along with raising a large family, she has dedicated a large part of her time studying with numerous well known artists. Local artists Susan Cowan, Vickie Nelson, Bev Jozwiak and Lee Baughman have been especially influential, along with Carla O’Connor and Michael Schlicting. Working mainly in water media, animals are a special interest along with anything experimental.

She is a member of Southwest Washington Watercolor Society, and Northwest Washington Watercolor Society. Her work can be seen at Gallery 21 in Vancouver, Washington and Oregon College of Arts and Craft in Portland, Oregon.

“Watercolor is an amazing medium, at times frustrating but always exciting. Trying to control and achieve your vision is always challenging and when it works, you have great satisfaction. However, my real passion is experimenting with mixed media, and being surprised and excited when you have discovered something new, different and one of a kind.”
