Imy Durfee Artist Statement |
|
|
Her home studio in
Vancouver, Washington, is the place she enjoys creating the
paintings of animals, flowers and heirloom treasures used in
many of her watercolor paintings. "To forever preserve the
beauty of the sunlight on flower petals or on the soft folds of
a lovely piece of old lace brings great joy."
Born Imogene A Gering in Lynden Washington, she has spent all of
her life in the Northwest. She has been a resident of Vancouver
for over 40 years. Here she met and married her husband, Ron
Durfee. They have two adult children.
She began her journey in watercolor 15 years ago through a
workshop and classes at Clark College. She was "hooked"
immediately. She continues to grow and explore through work in
her studio, workshops, and regular attendance with a group of
working artists.
"Watercolor has so many little surprises. The mixture of the
paint and water on the paper often dries more beautiful than I
could ever have imagined. Sometimes I feel as if the hand of
God is guiding mine as I put the paint on the paper.
Imy is active in local exhibits and competitions, and has won
numerous awards. Her work is on display in private and public
collections in the area.
