I am a native of the Pacific Northwest and have lived here most of my life. I enjoy being so close to so many different landscapes, ocean, rivers, wetlands, mountains, and high desert all within a couple hours’ drive. That being said, I also enjoy travel--anytime, place. I paint because I like playing with colors and I work in different media because each has its strengths and short comings (as do we all). Sometimes I work on two paintings with a similar theme in two different media, just to see which works best. My current explorations involve combining pastel and watercolor. I am not a purist and will use whatever the painting needs to make it work. Each painting is a challenge, a problem to solve, a puzzle to find the key to. There is so much to learn about art and painting it would take several lifetimes to assimilate it all. I am grateful that the teachers I need have arrived when I was ready, and also that they have also moved on when it is time for me to move on (even though I don’t always recognize it), and also for Clark College for always being there when I need it. My first watercolor teachers were Lee Baughman and Elaine Dube. I have taken workshops from Carolyn Buchanan, Susan Bourdet, and Eric Weigart. Susan Foley introduced me to pastels. A workshop by Clark Elster expanded my knowledge.
